Lord, Keep Us Steadfast in Thy Word

A hymn for the 6th Sunday after Trinity

(TLH:261, CW:203, ELH:589, LSB:655)

"Lord, Keep Us Steadfast in Thy Word"
by Martin Luther, 1483-1546

1. Lord, keep us steadfast in Thy Word;
Curb those who fain by craft and sword
Would wrest the Kingdom from Thy Son
And set at naught all He hath done.

2. Lord Jesus Christ, Thy power make known,
For Thou art Lord of lords alone;
Defend Thy Christendom that we
May evermore sing praise to Thee.

3. O Comforter of priceless worth.
Send peace and unity on earth.
Support us in our final strife
And lead us out of death to life.

I especially enjoyed this one, too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2sQziTZzUQQ Embedding was disabled, or I may have posted it above, instead. Watch this young boy as he plays "Lord, Keep us Steadfast in Your Word," and the few bars of Mozart following. He is really enjoying himself, playing the organ so hard that he starts weaving back and forth -- and his buddies watching him apparently think it is pretty cool, too (of course, the weaving may have just been his pedalling...).

By all accounts, the organ is coming back. And with boys, too. Even my 5-year old son has his heart set on playing the organ, and is begging us to get him started on the piano (and yes, I am quite happy with his taste in music... so far...). An article I recently read indicates that, in recent years, interest in the Organ is up considerably -- in careers as professional church organists, no less -- and that male students are once again beginning to dominate Organ studies programs at the colleges. Hopefully, this spells the beginning of the end for the "Jukebox Hero" church musicians, and that this following generation will remove that stuff to where it belongs -- in entertainment venues like the local clubs.
